Description
This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition.
The UK Space Agency will invest in research and development (R&D) to explore the challenges, innovation and future concepts of UK GNSS receivers. GNSS is increasingly used to support basic societal and security functions.
The aim of this competition is to:
- conduct early concept development
- investigate new concepts for future GNSS receivers (user and reference or monitoring grade)
- identify innovative approaches to the delivery of more traditional models
- develop UK capabilities
- understand the possible opportunities ahead
This competition will have 2 phases:
- Phase 1A is an expression of interest.
- Phase 1B details will be revealed during the industry day on 28 November.
The competition closes at midday 12pm UK time on the deadline stated.

Your proposal
This competition aims to identify innovative concepts for GNSS receivers with a focus on feasibility. Proposals should identify established and future concepts to deliver GNSS receivers, from multiple perspectives. This includes, but is not limited to:
- identification and understanding of the impact and potential of state-of-the-art technologies and capabilities
- technical readiness and scope for innovation
- improved security features including innovations in authentication and trust
- ability for the receivers to be used by a wide range of sectors
- innovative concepts of implementation and of operations
As most GNSS receiver designs are based on concepts developed more than 20 years ago, the UK Space Agency believe there is significant scope to innovate in this field.
Proposals can develop original ideas or adapt successful technologies, techniques or processes from other cutting-edge science and technology fields, drawing on UK capabilities and expertise.
Multiple outputs are required relating to exploring the feasibility of the concepts identified by the UK Space Agency, its partners and the successful bidders. These outputs will be detailed at the briefing event.Specific themes
Your proposal will explore new concepts and innovations for future UK GNSS receivers.

About SBRI competitions
SBRI provides innovative solutions to challenges faced by the public sector. This can lead to better public services and improved efficiency and effectiveness. SBRI supports economic growth and enables the development of innovative products and services. It does this through the public procurement of research and development (R&D). SBRI generates new business opportunities for companies and provides a route to market for their ideas. It also bridges the seed funding gap experienced by many early-stage companies.
